The Crossover

Alexander, K. (2014). The Crossover. Houghton Mifflin Harcourt
Jordan and Josh are twin brothers that have a passion for playing basketball. Josh gets the nickname of Filthy McNasty because he is so good at playing the sport. They are both trying to win the county championship for their team the Wildcats. Their father Charles Bell pushes them to practice hard everyday. He does this because he himself was a professional basketball player and won a championship ring, which the boys love to see and wear. However the boys learn that heart disease runs in their family and are concerned for their father. Their father has a heart attack and spends days in the hospital. The boys are worried about their father and want to be by his side, but they know that they have committed to play in the championship. While playing basketball the boys learn that their father died. They are heart broken, but Josh knows that his father will always be by his side.
I really enjoyed this book because my son plays middle school basketball and I can relate to some of the verbiage that the author uses in the book. It was a very emotional story. I believe that any reader that enjoys sports would like to read this book.
