This book is about a young girl named Cece, who because of an illness lost her ability to hear. She experiences the hardships of being different from the rest of the children. She goes through life wondering how it would be like to be able to hear well. She feels embarrassed of her hearing device and tries to hide it from the rest of the children. Her imaginations is the one thing that helps her get through her deaf life. She imagines her life as a superhero and it does kind of come true when she is able to hear her teachers from anywhere in the school with her hearing device. Everyone in the school finds out and she is looked at as a classroom hero.

Although, I really don't enjoy comic books, this book was really interesting. I think that anyone that enjoys comics would find this book very interesting.

As a result, he conjures up an imaginary cat named Crenshaw. Crenshaw appears in his life only when problems arise. Crenshaw seems to distract Jackson from thinking about his problems. However, at the end Jackson gets tired of their life situation and lets his parents know. I really enjoyed this book. It made me think of the problems that small children have to endure.

Her grandmother is about to sell the cabin and she is helping her pack all her valuable things. One night she is visited by a ghost blue ghost. The ghost is calling her Elizabeth and Liz does not understand why the ghost is there. She is then transported into another time and meets her ancestors. While there she finds out that the baby is suffering from croup and the other Elizabeth does not know how to help her brother. Liz was guided by the blue ghost to find the remedy book and help the baby.

She writes about her youth and the events are occurring at that moment. She grew up knowing the discrimination of African American people. She grew up knowing about the important historical figures that made a change for her community. She writes about her feeling and the people in her family. She remembers the smells and the sights of Greenville. She remembers the changes that her family had to do because of her mother. From the beginning she knew that she would become a writer.
